I guess because morons, on average, are slightly better at local politics than intelligent people; they suffer fellow fools gladly.
ReplyDeleteIt's tacky to promote one's own unorthodox brilliance in a comment, but I've come up with a brilliant, unorthodox solution to the problem of politicians' being incapable of making arguments and mastering facts. In short, a Neo-Athenian Parliament (or Neo-Athenian National Assembly).

The concept is to force politicians to DEBATE in the legislature, by forcing them to CONVINCE neutral observers (1/3rd of the legislature, randomly selected). When that becomes a criterion of political success, the Dean Del Maestros will wither away.
